Alaska Becomes 4th State to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

Alaska Legalizes Recreational Marijuana

Include Alaska as the most recent state to legalize recreational marijuana. The vote was 52% in favor of the measure and 48% opposed. The momentum continues to build as a slight majority of US citizens seem to favor either legalization of marijuana, medical marijuana or decriminalization.

Retail sales will begin approximately 90 days after the Alaska legislature certifies the recent election results. The certification is expected to happen within the month of November. Alaska voters are typically conservative, but many choose to support the measure on grounds of a right to privacy or personal freedom.

It will be interesting to see what happens during the next presidential election as more younger voters will be voting in the states that may try to push for legalization soon.
